About Us A Legacy Shaped by Experience. Guided by Purpose.
Our Story
More than a century ago, T. Ray Phillips' great-great-grandfather claimed land during the Oklahoma Land Run and built a successful family business from the ground up. Like many family enterprises, the business became a source of opportunity, security, and pride for the generations that followed.
By the second generation, however, it was gone. Not because the family lacked determination or commitment, but because many of the challenges business-owning families still face today went unaddressed. Questions surrounding ownership, succession, wealth, and long-term planning were never fully resolved, and the effects of those decisions were felt for generations.
Growing up, T. Ray came to understand that story not as a case study, but as part of his family's history. It shaped his perspective on what is truly at stake when a business owner reaches a transition point without a coordinated plan in place.
When Family Business Legacies was founded in 1998, it wasn't simply to offer financial advice. It was built on the belief that business owners deserve guidance that helps protect not only the value of the business, but also the family, opportunities, and legacy connected to it.
That belief continues to shape everything we do today. We understand that business ownership affects far more than a balance sheet. It influences family relationships, financial independence, future opportunities, and the legacy an owner hopes to leave behind.
Business-owning families aren't one segment of our practice. They are the reason it exists.
What We Believe
Stewardship, purpose, and empowerment aren't words we selected because they look good on a page. They're principles that shape how we serve every business-owning family.
We believe people make better decisions when they understand their options and feel confident in the path they choose. That requires candor, accountability, and a willingness to have difficult conversations when they matter most.
We believe stewardship means honoring what families have spent years building and helping ensure it serves the people, opportunities, and legacy it was meant to support. And we believe the most effective advice begins with understanding what matters most before recommending a strategy.
Because when family, business, wealth, and legacy are closely connected, advice should reflect the full picture.
Stewardship
We believe stewardship is about more than managing wealth. It's about helping families make thoughtful decisions today that support the people, opportunities, and legacy they hope to influence tomorrow.
Through every stage of life and business ownership, we help clients stay focused on what matters most and act with intention.
Purpose
We believe every strategy should begin with purpose. Whether you're planning for a future transition, financial independence, or the next generation, the most important questions aren't financial. They're personal.
Understanding your goals, values, and vision for the future allows every recommendation to serve a greater purpose.
Empowerment
We believe informed families make stronger decisions. That's why we help owners and future generations understand not only what is being planned, but why.
By bringing successors into important conversations early, we help prepare them for the responsibilities, opportunities, and stewardship that often accompany ownership.
Why We Focus Exclusively on Family Business
Business-owning families operate within multiple systems at once: family, business, wealth, and legacy. Each carries its own goals, responsibilities, and expectations, yet decisions made in one area often create consequences in all the others.
Our focus is rooted in both personal experience and decades of professional work with families navigating ownership, succession, leadership, transition, and generational wealth. We've learned that while every family's circumstances are unique, many of the underlying dynamics are not.
Recognizing those dynamics, helping families navigate them proactively, and creating plans that reflect the full picture of what they've built and what they hope to preserve is the work we've been committed to from the very beginning.
Meet the Team The People Behind the Plan
Guided by the Same Values We Bring to Every Family
Family Business Legacies was built on the belief that the advisors serving business-owning families should understand those families from the inside out. Our leadership brings that same sense of accountability, stewardship, and purpose to the team they've built as they do to every client relationship. The result is a group of people who are genuinely invested in this work, not because it's their job, but because they understand what's at stake for the families who walk through our door.
